It’s All Greek to Me!

Here are a few useful terms that you may hear throughout your LSU Recruitment experience!

Bid

An invitation to join a sorority.

Bid Day

The last day of recruitment when potential new members receive invitations (bids) to join chapters.

Panhellenic Executive Council

The governing body of Panhellenic at LSU.

RBOD

The Recruitment Board of Directors are the 5 Panhellenic Executive Officers who support primary recruitment. See our RBOD page to learn more about these officers and their respective jobs.

Continuous Open Bidding

An opportunity for chapters that do not reach quota during primary recruitment to bid to quota.

Legacy

A daughter, sister, or granddaughter of an initiated member of a sorority. Each organization has a different policy regarding legacies.

Dues

Cost of joining a sorority; generally covers chapter operations, events, and activities.

MRABA

The binding agreement signed by a potential new member following the final preference event she attends during primary recruitment. See our MRABA page for more information.

National Panhellenic Conference

The umbrella organization for 26 international sororities.

Potential New Member

A Potential New Member (PNM) is any woman eligible to participate in recruitment.

Quota

The number of potential new members to which each chapter can offer bids during primary recruitment.

Rec Letters

A form completed by a member of a sorority recommending a potential new member for membership. See our Recommendation Letters page for more information about this process.

Recruitment

A period of time during which events are held by each sorority for the purpose of selecting new members.

Active

A female who is currently in a sorority.

Gamma Chi

A recruitment counselor that assists PNMs during the recruitment process. See our Gamma Chi page for more information.

Strict Silence

The period of time when there is no communication between potential new members and active sorority women.

Alumna

A sorority member who is no longer a member of a collegiate chapter.
